Synthetic Biology Circuits Can Respond Within Seconds
Researchers at Penn State College of Medicine, in collaboration with bioengineers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), have designed the first synthetic circuit made entirely of fast, reversible interactions between proteins. This is a significant contribution to development of personalized/precision medicine.
Someday it will be possible to program such circuits into human cells and their fast response can be used to report life threatening events such as drug overdoses or an imminent heart attack within seconds.
